Last leg of monsoon showers lash coastal Tamil Nadu

Spells of sumptuous downpours will continue for a day or two in Delta and South Tamil Nadu as trough of low runs from Equatorial Indian Ocean to Comorin area. Partly cloudy weather turning overcast and periods of showers will make for a pleasant setting in this winter month. Sharp spells of rains can be expected all along coastal areas of Delta and STN whereas adjoining places will see drizzles. As trough gives away in a day or so, drier pattern will return leading up to Pongal festivities and this could possibly signal the cessation of North East Monsoon rains over South Peninsula.

North India continues to shiver in winter chill as dense fog continues to affect normal life in states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar where maximum temperatures are several degrees below normal. Biting cold wave conditions will continue to prevail in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, North Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Odisha and gangetic West Bengal.
