Rains to continue in most parts of TN due to the lingering low-pressure area

Yesterday’s low-pressure area over Sri Lanka and adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal now lies over Southwest Bay of Bengal off Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu coast and extends up to 3.1 kilometers above mean sea level.

Rains are expected to continue in most parts of Tamil Nadu concentrating along the coast from Chennai to Vedaranyam and some rainfall can be expected in the interior Tamil Nadu as well. Some rainfall will extend into Kerala. This is expected to prolong for the next 2-3 days with occasional breaks.

City Outlook:

Chennai – Generally Cloudy sky with intermittent Showers turning very heavy with a max temp at 31 degrees and a min of 25 degrees temperature.

Vellore – Cloudy skies with Moderate rain possibility. Expected temp would be a max of 32 degrees and a min of 23 degrees.

Coimbatore – Mostly cloudy Sky is expected with light rain possibility. Max & Min temp would be around 31 & 22 C.

Trichy – Partly cloudy sky with chances of some light rainfall. Temp – Max of 34 degrees and a minimum of 25 degrees.

Madurai – Partly Cloudy sky with Light rain possibilities. A max temp of 33 degrees and a min of 24 degrees.

The highest NEM rainfall during months October to December was in 2005 with 2166 mm rainfall and the lowest NEM rainfall for the same period is 133 mm in the year 1909.
