South West monsoon has arrived: IMD

Indian Meteorological Department, the official weather agency has announced that South West monsoon has arrived over Kerala, 3 days ahead of its usual schedule. A potent mid to lower mid level vortex persists off the Malabar coast. The Northern limit of the monsoon currently passes over Kannur, Coimbatore, Kodaikanal and Tuticorin. Scattered thunderstorms will continue over parts of the state with warm and sultry conditions.

The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) passes through Lat. 12°N/ Long. 60°E, Lat. 12°N/ Long. 65°E, Lat. 12°N/ Long. 70°E, Kannur, Coimbatore, Kodaikanal, Tuticorin, Lat. 09°N/ Long. 80°E, Lat. 13°N/ Long 85°E, and Lat.18°N/ Long. 90°E and Lat 21°N / Long. 93°E.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

City Outlook:

Chennai – Very warm and sultry with a high of 38 degrees and a low of about 29 degrees.

Vellore – Sunny and hot with a high of about 40 degrees and a low of about 28 degrees. Chance of PM thunderstorms.

Madurai – Clear with a high of about 38 degrees and a low of about 27 degrees. Thunderstorms are expected on this day.

Trichy – Warm with chance of late PM thunderstorms. High of about 39 degrees.

Coimbatore – Partly cloudy with a high of about 33 degrees and a low of about 24 degrees.
