Hot and dry north westerly winds are expected to dominate over most parts of the state leading to “Agni Nakshatram (Fire star), the peak scorching period of the famed Indian summer. Both interiors as well as coastal areas are expected to touch record temperatures for this year, over the course of this week. Places over interiors could easily reach 44-45 degree Celsius this week leading to dangerous conditions for outdoor activity.
Meanwhile, northern parts of the state will continue to see thunderstorm activity in the late evenings with sharp downbursts due to inland convergence.
Chennai – Very hot with a maximum of 40 degrees and a minimum of 30 degrees.
Coimbatore – Seasonally warm with a high of about 36 degrees and a low of about 25 degrees.
Madurai – Few clouds with mercury touching about 41 degrees.
Trichy – Hot and clear with a high of about 41 degrees and a low of about 29 degrees.
Vellore – Hot with a high of 42 degrees and a low of 30 degrees.
