Cyclone Burevi makes landfall over Sri Lanka, enters GOM

After 20 years a cyclone made landfall over Sri Lanka. It is expected to weaken as it heads towards the Gulf of Mannar. Ramanthapuram to Rameshwaram island to Pamban and the near by areas will witness winds of around 50-60 km/hr. The Cyclone is expected to weaken further in the GOM and expected to stall for atleast a day before crossing between Kanyakumari and Pamban close to border areas of Ramanthapuram – Thoothukudi district tomorrow morning.

Heavy to very heavy rains with isolated extremely heavy rains likely over Southern districts of Tamil Nadu such as Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari etc between December 2-5. Heavy to very heavy rains likely over delta districts of Tamil Nadu such as Nagapattinam, Cuddalore with few places might see extremely heavy rains.

Moderate to rather heavy rains likely over North coastal TN between Dec 2nd to 5th, with few places might witness Very heavy rains. Chennai city is likely to see cloudy skies with intermittent moderate rains, heavy at times between December 3 – 5.
