Cyclone to Accelerate Monsoon onset over West Coast

Present Low pressure area in Arabian sea is likely to strengthen into a cyclone in coming days and move along the west coast thereby helping the monsoon to set over the west coast of India.

This system will make up the lost days and help accelerate Monsoon onset over India. On the leeward side of western ghats thunderstorm activity is likely to reduce with light rains possible over North Interior TN surrounding Salem.

With strengthening westerlies the onset of sea breeze over the land will get delayed thereby increasing the heat over large parts of TN including Chennai and its suburbs.

Chennai and its suburbs will sizzle throughout the day with temperature touching over 40°C. Central and North TN will also experience a temperature range of over 40°C. Extreme South TN from Tirunelveli to Kanyakumari will get relief from extreme heat with maximum temperature to remain under 36°C.
