The Well Marked low pressure area over the SW Bay of Bengal and adjoining Equatorial Indian Ocean now lies over SW Bay of Bengal and adjoining NE Sri Lanka. The Associated cyclonic circulation extends upto 5.8 km above mean sea level. It is likely to ramp up into a depression during Landfall as shear values are low near the coasts alongside very favorable conditions for intensification. Consequently heavy rains are expected over coastal Tamil Nadu for the next 24-36 hours. Fishermen are not expected to venture out into the sea for the next 24 hours. Chennai will see heavy showers through the day. This is most likely to be Chennai’s first intense rain spell of this monsoon and will up the cheer quotient amongst the denizens.
